medication shuffle. posted on bipolar forum too but need a response....

so ive been on seroquel for only like a week now. 25 mg and my ob doc called today and said she does not want me on this med. Im so confused. her reasoning makes sense though. having been my ob and family practitioner for 2 years she knows that normally durring my pregnancy i am very level and have never shown any signs of hypomania. So her thoughts are that i should be re evaluated after my pregnancy. So 20 minutes later, she calls me back and says that she spoke with the p doc and has decided that i SHOULD stay on it! Mainly to treat my anxiety because i have not been able to stop the klonopin. i am taking 1 mg at night because it seems as though the seroquel has a paridoxial effect and i have a panick attack within an hour of taking it. not to mention that although my depression is MUCH better on the seroquel, i still dont have my life back. i still dont go out and live life like i used to. i constantly avoid and reschedule appointments just so i dont have to leave the house. so im at the point where i feel like should i even be taking any medication at all because what works for me im being told not to take and what doesnt fix the problem is what is being shoved down my throat. i understand that the klonopin is a category d in pregnancy but i have been told and also read in reseach that it can be ok if its nessecarry and then that its a NO NO> why cant anything be clear? Im so confused.

I don't know what seroquel is, is it for depression only?  My husband is on paxil but there are so  many medications for depression out there, maybe  something is better for you that wont give you a panick attack after taking it.  I have anxiety and sometimes now take ativan if i need it, was taking it twice a day for awhile but only 1/2 when i feel nervous and insecure.  I know you said you are pregnant so you have to be careful about the medications you are taking, it seems to me that although you have been with you ob for 2 years, i would suggest looking for another doctor that is more qualified and can give you the proper answers you have alittle one to consider.  let me know how you make out.

THE SEROQUEL IS supposed to be for all aspects of bipolar 2. i wAS on paxil before i got pregnant and it wrked for me. im looking for a new opinion. When my ob doc said t0o just suffer through the panic attack because i know what they are, i felt like asking, would you tel a m0other with postpartum depression to just suffer becaise she knows what it is!

Seroquel is an anti psychotic with very sedative qualities. If Paxil made you feel fine Seroquel is quite a leap. If the bi polar diagnoses came after the Paxil experience that may be the reason. I did not think Seroquel came in .25mgs are you sure? if so that is a very small dose, most start at 50 or I think 100 then cycle up to 300mgs. My md tried to put me on it and I refused. Seroquel is not the same as an ssri at all. I would get a second or third opinion. I have heard of docs prescribing it just for sleep and I have been told that is bad....heck it is very confusing...hang in there.

Were you diagnosed bp after taking Paxil? Have you been evaluated by a psychiatrist?
How far are you in your pregnancy?
