You have to be careful, don't add anything else to the mix yourself. If you need to, definitely go back, and ask that the staff contact your prescribing doctor to come see you, or in the least, call in orders for you.
Good luck...update us, hope you're feeling better soon!
I went to the ER yesterday. The gave me an IV of some sort of Benedryl to help me relax and stop the involuntary movement.I was talking and not making any sense. Didn't help that one of the nurses kept telling me to do something and I couldn't answer so she backed me in to a corner behind the door and screamed at me. Over the course of today I made appointments with my med doctor and all that. Problem is... it's happening again. If it keeps up I'm going back to the ER. I checked the rare and serious side effects and had EVERY SINGLE ONE. The ER basically sent me home and told me to take more Benedryl and wait for the Geodon to leave my system. But they didn't give me anything for the physical side effects. I asked and they said they wouldn't give me anything. I asked if it had anything to do with the meds I was on and they were like "No. We just need what we have for more serious incidents." Does anyone know if there's something I can get at like CVS or something because I can hardly function at all. I'm surprised I'm typing this.
I would call your local pharmacy and ask them to check your meds for interactions. They can look it up in their system and since its Sunday I'm guessing you cant get a hold of your doctor.
I myself tend to get the rare side effects that not many people get from these type of medications. I cant suggest what you should do. But what I did (since it was in the weekend for me too) was cut back my med to the last level I knew I was able to handle. Then Monday morning I called my psych dr and explained it all, and we went from there. Again, not saying you should do this as I dont know you or whats best for you. Some anti-psychotics can certainly make things worse instead of better. Different doses can have a different effect as well. Just thought you should know.
I would suggest that you go to the ER if needed. Also, if your regular family doctor is giving you these meds, I would go to an actual psychiatrist.
Best of luck in feeling better!!
Temporary movement disorders can occur from all antipsychotics
but generally not to that severity. Each person responds to each
antipsychotic differently. When a person experiences severe temporary
movement disorders such as a dystonic reaction there can be
personality changes but only a psychiatrist would understand this in full.
Generally over time a person is able to adjust to the side effects
of medications. However the symptoms you are describing sound of concern. It would be essential to contact the doctor or psychiatrist
who is prescribing the Geodon. They would
also have a physician's only database to check
for medication interactions. See if you can page them and reach them
as soon as possible. If they instruct you to go to the e.r. then follow their
instructions. If not it would make sense to go on your own.
Don't make any changes to any medications until advised by a physician.
Long term decisions as to what medication is appropriate for you can
be decided after they follow up and treat the current symptoms.
