neck strain leading to panic

by groton, Jan 01, 2007 12:00AM
i have allergies(perenial) When they are bad the make my skull base sore and kind of weak feeling
For the past month, when i move my head side to side or up and down, i get dizzy. If i move it a lot(im a painter/carpenter)it gets strained and the strain radiates into my skull and is the passing out feeling you get when you have a panic attack. I went to hospital they did ct scan, corodid and vertibral artery ultrasound,
and neck x-ray. everything clear but i have a slight slipped (c4) disk. doc said that would not cause the dizziness. also went to ent and he said it is not from an ear problem. i havent been able to work longer tha two hours at a time for three weeks. this neck thing brings on the worse panic attacks i've ever had and i've been having them for 19 years. have to take xanax everyday cause i have a panic attack or two every single day. I have 7 children and i need some help. I am self employed so i have the flexability to work around the xanax. If anyone can tell me anything that can help. thanks,Matt

I am no expert on neck pain and slipped discs, however, I am an expert on anxiety!  I have suffered with anxiety/panic attacks for more than 10 years.  I take the medication called buspar.  It has helped so much for the anxiety and that lightheaded feeling.  I know how terrible that can be.  If your lightheadedness is from anxiety, an anti-anxiety medication can be the answer.  I take it everyday and am able to function just fine, however, medications can affect people differently.  Go and see your physician and have a complete physical, if all is well, then go see a pyschiatrist or pharmacologist.  This doctor will be able to best diagnose what you are feeling and prescribe what you may need.

Check to make sure that you do not have an inner ear disorder. Can cause everything from dizziness, to vision problem, to anxiety, to stiff and sore neck....
