pain & anxiety

by kteen16, Nov 10, 2007 11:08PM
im 17 years old and have been dealing with anxiety disorders since i was 8.
when i get a pain or a ache, i seem to think its something serious. so then i keep thinking about it and the pain gets worse, then after a while i get extremley anxious becuase i think the pain is like cancer or somthing. then it leads into a panic attack and i make all these lists in my head of what could be wrong with me.
is the pain really something serious? or is it just my anxiety. all in my head?
Thank you for your time.

Hello.  I am 20, and I have been dealing with the same problem since I was 17.  Everything you just mentioned, happens to me.  The pain, as far as I have been told, is not serious.  I read that if you think about something, it causes a chemical to be released in the brain, and it makes you think worse about it, which causes you to panic.  It is really scary.  I read the book "Anxiety and Depression for Dummies" and I thought it was pretty  helpful.  Good Luck.

I also have the same problem. Everytrime you get a pain or an ache you think that your dying. I've been through it also and was even put on medicine for it. I don't think the meds help if you ask me I still have my attacks. You just need to think of good thoughts and when you do feel a pain or an ache take a deep breath and relax. Hope everything works out. God bless!
