Yes, I justed woke up and last night I had one. i was just diagnosed with general anixety and panic disorder. They came out of nowhere 2mths ago,  and sometimes can be very disabiling. I was doing everything to control until 3 weeks ago I took one in school and it hit me so hard and lasted from 10:30 am till 4pm in the afternoon. I didnt even know what was happening, went to the dr next day, and was so anxious, my heartrate was 120. I finally seen a pysch, who gave me a anti-depress and xanax prn. I didnt take the anti-depress b/c its very sedating. I feel like something is wrong with me too, like your dying, but its just bad anixety. Good Luck!

I have been having the same problem and my doctor gave me some anxiety  meds for it and I thought she was crazy because I never thought you could have a anxiety attack in your sleep.  I had my gall bladder out 4 days ago  and ever since before the surgery I have been having this problem.  I haven't slept through the night in 11 days. I will try the meds and hopefully this resolves my issue.  I thought it had to do with my heart and I have had a ekg, blood work and  a x-ray and they said everything is fine.  Thanks for your post!

thanks for all the help comments.Ive been reading up on panic attacks, when i was a teenager, and in my early 20s i used to get small panic attacks when i would go over large bridges, not bad ones but a panic attack none the less. For years i never had them again, now im 28 in the military, and all of a sudden two weeks ago standing in morning formation,i felt great happy it was friday, then all a sudden BAM,all the typical syptoms hit me like a train, and for a good 30min it lasted, thn i finally sat down and said to myself WTF was tht all about, panic attack never crossed my mind yet,i thought i was dying or od ing off the sleeping pills i took the night beforOTC stuff.but then i got on this site and looked up the symptoms i was having and wala, panic attack.but for some reason im having trouble telling myself this, this time, and am starting to have them quite frequintly. Its starting to bug me,but like everyone is saying, guess its time to seek real help, guess im to old to just will this s@#$t away anymore.Good luck to you all who have this problem, cause its not fun.Sorry i dont have them in sleep, but i already typed all this.

It sounds like you are being woken by a panic attack.  Anxiety is made much worse by alcohol, thus the more you drink the worse it will eventually be.  Keep drinking and taking Klonopin and life may very well be 'certain to end'.  I think you know that you need to seek help with both the drinking and anxiety.  Anything we can help you out here please feel free to ask.

I go through the same thing almost everynight. I drink almost everynight and if I go over a limit of 4 beers a night it is almost certain I will wake up a few hours later with my whole body being a heart beat and I am fixing to die. I wake up, take a quarter klonopin, and a half hour later Im sleeping like a baby. I know its a drinking problem, but its just so wierd how one moment in a deep sleep everything is fine and then all of the sudden life is certain to end.

Definately go see a doctor before it becomes a pattern and eventually a disorder.  I had to live with panic attacks while I sleep for years and I was dependent on a lot of medication (klonipin is very effective, but eventually you need more dosages of it to work) so I eventually stopped and wanted to do natural methods.

Take yoga classes and learn how to meditate if it becomes a problem for you, and if it does you can find more ways to battle sleep panic attacks at my blog

i have a fear of death.....for a while now....just for about a year now i get attacks....mostly durin the night and now sumtimes during the day. i feel faint, negative thought, i feel like throwing up, i also believe i have sleep apnea (excuse my spelling) im scared about medication though. I feel like iv convinced myself that i have a health condition now cuz of me feeling faint at night, but after about 20min of pacing back and forth drinking water and having my gf rub my back it goes away. its to the point though that im afraid of going to sleep, and its really just scaring me all day every day.....is there  cure?? will i get better?? will medication really help????

Hello,

It's been 16 years since my last panic attack, for the last two days I have started having them, yesturday it happen while I was driving, had to pull over.  I got very light headed and couldn't drive, they are happening when I sleep (I do take prescribtion sleeping pills), they are so bad that I am being woken up by not being able to breathe, I mean gasping for air, they are lasting about 10 min.

there was a time when I couldn't eat or drink for a month. my mom would jump if i had one cracker. sometime i would get so bad that i thought i was fainting those are the only times i'd get so scared and they would give me orange juice to get my blood sugar up. doctor told me to drink gatorade to not get dehydrated. please drink gatorade and try to keep orange juice with you at all time during such episodes. i would lay down as didn't have any energy and would be scared that i'm not going to wake up. but still couldn't eat, couldn't drink. only those times when i would drink orange juice and would shiver like crazy at those times. with lots of love, please take care of yourself.

yea what u experienced happens to me often too, Ill fall asleep and about an hour into my sleep, ill awake with my heart pounding and i have to get up cause i feel like im gonna die! it doesnt last too long and when i calm myself down ill go back to sleep.  I dont understand why this happens in my sleep and it sux cause i have no control over it... but actually what helps me is before i go to sleep, i take half a .5 tablet of xanax and i sleep just fine, the only thing is i feel a little drowsy when i wake up. hope this helps...

Hollie, I too am sorry that you are going through this.  I was hoping that your fiancee's visit would help you to relax a little but that obviously has not helped you.  Please take everyone's advice and seek out real professional help.  You have an anxiety disorder that needs to be addressed, and the people here can only give you advice, we can not "fix" you.  We are here to support you, don't get me wrong, but you need to ultimatly take care of YOU!  I don't doubt at all that you woke up experiencing a panic attack, I have them often when I wake up, whether it's in the middle of the night or in the morning.  You will be fine if you just seek out help....PLEASE!

I am sorry this happened to you. A panic attack is the first place to look as you try to explain the incident. Your job now is to prevent this from becoming a panic disorder and you can do this by getting professional help right away before it becomes a pattern. Lots of people get this and it is a treatable condition that can be managed very well. You will be just fine, I assure you.
