I would agree with the above members' comments.  There are various forms of medications that can help tremendously with anxiety and depression.  Just don't try to do it on your own.  I would go see my doctor and explain to him/her your situation and what you are going through for two reasons.  One, you can discuss different medication options if you want to go that route and two, you can get a referral to see a mental health care professional (i.e. a counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist, etc).

I am a big supporter of medications as long as it it combined with talk therapy...the old saying, 'knowledge is power," really rings true when dealing with this in my experience.  A panic attack will not cause you physical harm even though it quite often feels like it...keep us posted!!

Anxiety cannot harm you. Like ELEES_31 said, anxiety medications that work "immediatley" are usually benzos, which, if taken a lot, can be physically and mentally addicting. So doctors are very careful when prescribing these. Now, depending on what your doctor thinks, he may give you some just for emergency. Or just enough to get you by til an anti-depressant kicks in.

I would suggest seeing a doctor soon. Sometimes we need a little extra help. But don't depend on it forever. You can take control. I have several times! =) I've been on Lexapro for about 4-5 months. I've not had an anxiety episode sense august. That is awesome for me. I'm also weaning off right now. I know I've got this. =)

Good luck! Keep in touch with us! =) YOU'VE GOT THIS ONE. =)

You're not going to die from your panic attack, those thoughts are the anxiety you're feeling.  Panic attacks/Anxiety can make you feel so many things!  Anxiety medications can be great things, but they don't all work immediately.  The ones that will work quickly, are addictive and most doctors are not quick to prescribe them.  Talk to your doctor though.  I was having a severe panic attack on Monday and did get the quick fix!
