panic triggered by event

My first panic attack was triggered by me seeing my son's heartbeat before he was born and since then I have had several ER visits and countless trips to the doc.  I'm a healthy active guy that surfs does yoga and works out but the symptoms I have been experiencing the past month are scaring me.  I wake up with my arms, legs and lips tingling and burning and I jump out of bed into full blown panic.  It takes me a while to calm down with meditation or streaching and I have learned to deal with it but it's happening every night.  I've had 5 different blood panels, gone to a thyroid specialist (I thought I had hyperthyroidsm) and everything came back normal.  I feel like they missed something and I have this fear of dying and going crazy!  Can adrenaline pump while you are sleeping as well as throughout the day?  I have seen a homeopath as well as an EMDR therapist and they say I have PTSD from when I was a boy.  I do know that dealing with the root can help cure panic as opposed to taking lots of drugs.  I was perscribed Xanax but I'm afraid to take it.  I'm driving my wife crazy and my whole day is consumed with my worries and symptoms.  Any feedback would really help.

Thanks from San Diego...

I would suggest taking the xanex AS NECESSARY.  You were prescribed it for a reason and while you are seeking treatment and trying to deal with this panic there is no reason to make it worse on yourself by not using this med.  There is NOTHING to be worried about when taking it, you should absolutely feel much better afterward.  The only other advice I would give is to not take the Xanex too regularly.  I don't know what dosage you were given but likely it is rather small.  Taking this once a day, or every other day, or 2-3 times a week should not lead you into any dependence xanex.  And even if it does, you can taper off in the future.  I think you should take this stuff, you really will feel better.   Again, just take it as necessary.

Id say its normal and actually probably one of the nicest causes of anxiety Iv ever heard of. Seeing you are now somehow responsible for the bringing in of a new life, and being that concerned about your own lack of control over this fact....... I can think of alot worse things to have to have caused such upset. I hope you decide your alright with this... you are blessed and that will become more clear. Im betting yoru anxiety will let off soon.

A lot of my attacks are triggered by events (fights with my boyfriend, bad weather, etc) that is def. normal. And you for sure are NOT going crazy. I think everyone thinks that when it begins. I'm sorry I don't know much else about it, but I feel the same things, so you're not alone! Best wishes :D
