pexeva/paxil

Ive been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder recently and was prescribed pexeva which is a form of paxil.  Ive been taking 20mg of this medication for 7 days now and the side effects are horrible.  Constantly tired, unable to orgasm, and reserved personality.  Im 25 and male and have never taken medication like this.  How long do the side effects last or is going to continue?

I was on paxil for four months about 7 years ago and I was taking 40  a day. I had restless leg syndrom, I was certainly subdued and I felt over medicated all the time and could not sleep due to the restless leg stuff. I stopped taking this with a doctors help and stayed off anything for a couple years than thre years ago I got on lexapro and faithfully took my 20 a day for a year and I do believe that it enabled me to funtion on a calmer level to arrange my life to a more simple fashion but the first month was hell. I had more anxiety atacks than I had ever had and I just hated it but got throught it. than going off was a month of anxiety attacks that numbered in the wat too many catagory.I had no weight gain by the way but some people do on lexapro. I formed a very nutritional diet for myself and I drink six glasses of water a day and take a walk everyday and I have no anxiety attacks and I am happy and I do not allow any B.S. into my life. I just set boundaries and take care of my bodies needs and I find that to be better than any drug but of course I would talk to your doctor before doing this.if you choose to. Hope this helps.

As JS said the length of time it takes for a particular medication to work varies with the individual. The "usual" length of time that most people are told is give it 2 weeks. You definately should notify your doctor about the side effects as he may either have to change the medication or adjust the dosage. These types of meds are "known" for their sexual side effects so it make take a bit to find the right combo for you. :-)
Just don't give up and as JS said if you aren't also getting some therapy please do so it will make a world of difference.

You may get some answers to that question, but remember, your mileage will vary, so see your dealer (doctor) for details, OK, and do it soon. Raise hell about it so he/she knows.

I'm hoping and praying, begging and pleading, cajoling and pushing for some THERAPY, please, in addition to meds. The meds are good, the therapy is good, and together they are much better than either one alone, so the research says (and so I say based on my experience).

And another thing ...JOIN this forum, you're going to BE here for awhile, so become one of us.  Its easy -just click the Join Link -enter some profile information about yourself -even a picture if you care to- and anything you think would help us get to know you faster and better, and you can change this material whenever you like. You will also be accessible to receive private messages when other members click the name you've given yourself -sort of a "push to talk" feature. After you've done that, spend some time just using various features of the forum. For example, to see all the posts or responses that someone has made, just click their handle, go to their profile, click Posts, and read to your heart's content. You may also enter search terms -including member names- in the search box at the upper right of your screen and the system will retrun everything matching the term(s) you entered. This INCLUDES a drug database that will give you both user posts about drugs as well as the medical information about the drug. A great way to get quick answers about therapeutic effect, side effects, interactions, etc.

One of the profile categories is your mood, which you may change anytime you like.

Along the right side of your screen is a section of Recent Activity, which not only alerts you to new posts, but new ANYTHING, including journal entries and mood. This is a way to telegraph the community at large without actually creating a separate post. Thus, if you see a friend's mood has changed while you are working on a response or post, it can alert you to send them a private message to learn more or simply let them know you're thinking of them. Likewise, if you are going to be "out," you could enter something like "off line for the night" as your mood, and people would know you're away from the forum for awhile.

If you do this kind of exploring and experimenting right away, you'll be up-to-speed quickly. If you see the message you are reading now as part of a direct response I (or anyone) has made to one of your posts, it was probably copied and pasted from this journal. I hate form letters and auto-responses as much as anyone -but I also hate forgetting to tell people what they need to know, so this is my safety-net. Consider it as part of your "Welcome" kit. So -please join and try things out.

You might also want to read my entries for the "Right Click Trick" and "When in Haste, Use Copy 'n Paste" for some other convenient time-savers.

We're glad you are here!
