I do have anxiety but Im wondering can anxiety cause you to feel like something is stuck in you throat almost all the time? I tried ppis for 6 months did not help, when I was on the ppi things got worse burning mouth and throat!! I had my tonsills out and the feeling went away for 3 months then it came back? It was not there when I was pregent with my daughter so if it was reflux it would have been worse!! I remeber feeling really weak when this feeling came back could not breath felt tired did not want to do anything at all!! My dad has anxiety so it runs in my family!! I have always worried about things but I just question if anxiety can make you feel like something is stuck in your throat most of the time!! I'm on lexapro first one that i don't feel werid on i eased into it and now on 10 milagrams, some days it does not bother me at all, but today I feel that felling again and burning tounge a little bit!! I hate this so much it consumes me!! Always looking on the ineternet going to so many docs, so can someone please tell me if this is normal with anxiety? thanks for taking the time to read this!!:)

Are u on something for anxiety? Did the meds help with that feeling? I only have the feeling of something being stuck on the left side kinda up higer it's not low in the throat. I have the feeling most days all day, sometimes it's not there but always comes back, I don't feel anxious nut I guess u don't have to to have anxiety? See my earlier posts for the whole story!:) they thought acid reflux meds didn't help all tests normal and while bei g in two ppis a day my mouth started burning my my while mouth and throat, I really didn't think anxiety could cause that nut it probaly can? That's why I keep thinking it's reflux but they say no, I keep thinking they r missing something? Thanks for taking ur time:)

I had the throat tightness going on for a long time. I know exactly what your talking about. Yes, it was the anxiety. That was years ago but I still get it sometimes when I'm feeling very stressed. I hope the dose increase helps. Keep us up to date on how your doing.  Remar

You don't have to feel anxious to be having anxiety symptoms.
Yes many people have what you seem to be having 'globus sensation' and it can definetly be due to anxiety. Keep in touch with your doctor handling your lexapro and let him know about this symptom if you havent already.  see:

Rest assured by most of us here on this forum that anxiety can cause severe physical ailments we would have never have dreamt possible.  I too had GERD (acid reflux) but the PPI's did do the job for me.  GERD came out of nowhere for no reason and would literally flatten me if I didn't take PPI's.  This lasted 3 years.  I weaned myself off the PPI slowly and found the problem left me as mysteriously as it came.
Keep in mind that anxiety disorder is quite different then the normal stress and tension everyone experiences in life and is certainly not limited to the anxiety one might get giving a speech or something like that.  For me anyway, it's 99% physical.  The physical sickness that seems endless and without cause is amplified by a nervous system malfunctioning for reasons poorly understood, if at all.
The 1% mental part is not to be diminished.  That percent can quickly balloon.  Physical 'torture' can drive anyone 'crazy' making their thought processes go seriously into panic mode and become 'irrational'.   But remove the physical effects and things quickly return to the 'norm'.
Don't accept all physical problems as being caused by anxiety and continue to have all checked by a medical professional.  Better to check and find nothing then to not check.
Talk to your doctor about the possibility of increasing your lexapro and see what he/she says.
It might be beneficial for you to increase the dose.
Write me any time and take care!

Yes saw ent did the whole camera thing looked at my throat oh probe all looked normal ph test showed some reflux so he sent me to a gi doc did a 24 hour probe normal, asked why the ent probe showed something and he said the gi doctors tests are more accurate! I said I can't believe anxiety can cause all these symptoms and he said it can. But the feeling in my throat is there most of the time I dint see how if it's anxiety how can it be there that much? Sometimes it not but very rarely!! On lexapro and nit having any side effects for the first time out of all the meds only on 10 mg so maybe I should up it my mouth symptoms come and go, but I'm just sometimes scared they are missing something ?? Sometimes I tell my self it's anxiety but sometimes it gets ther best if me!! The feeling in my throat went away fir 3 months then came back and that's when they said acid reflux ppis did nothing, I got pregnant with my 2 daughter and It did not bother me at all that is when my main doctor said if it were reflux it would have gotten worse being pregnant!? So this all can be from anxiety?? Before my throat it was my back so much pain thought I had back cancer , then it got better and then the throat thing started. But if it was reflux and having this feeling in my throat  for 4 years there would have been inflmation for sure but nothing, please write back and thanks for talking/)

Sorry you are going through such a hard time right now.  To answer your question yes anxiety can make you feel like you have something in your throat.  Anxiety can mimic anything we can imagine.  It is horrible.

Please stop researching your symptoms on the internet it is only going to make your anxiety so much worse than it already is.  The net is a great place for information but not for medical diganosis.

All the tests you have had ruled out anything major so that should help ease your mind (easier said than done, I know),  Hopefully your meds will start to help you soon.

I would also suggest you see a psychatrist if you aren't already doing so.  They can help teach you coping skills and sometimes it nice to have someone to talk too.

I hope you start feeling better soon.  Please keep us posted....

Hey good question I was wondering the same thing.  I have had anixety for 9 years and recently I have been having this feeling of not being about to get enough air.  Not really a shortness of breath just a feeling of not having enough air kinda like in my throat.  Dont really know how to explain it.  But usually my anixety is different this time its staying and not going away.  I have been to my Dr. 2 times, the ER 2 times, my med doctor, and my OBGYN.  They have ran test and they all say the same thing.  See I had the Hep B shot for my school and I had a small reactiont to that so I have decided I am having a reaction to that and dying.  I am thinking I dont like it!!   I feel you!!

Yes anxiety can and does cause the symptoms you describe.  It sounds like you have had all the proper tests to rule out the other possible causes.
Personnally I believe that anxiety results in inflammation of various organs of the body.
The GI tract being the most common spot.  Our throats, stomachs, ears, noses, intestinal tracts, etc. become inflammed and then our immune systems take over.  Asthma, sore throats, stomach pains, diarrhea, ear aches, and so one then soon follow or are made worse.
I would think however that your doctors would have said something about inflammtion.
Did you see a ENT?
