Thanks for your response. I have been seeing a therapist for years. I am wondering if some sort of bio-feedback oriented or behavioral therapy would help. One of the few places I can eat some soft foods comfortably is at my therapist's office. Are you a medical professional? Do you suffer from this? Just curious as to your relationship to this problem. Am wondering if there is also any 'physical' therapy that could help w/ this.
By recognizing that there are times when at ease, you are able to swallow just fine, tells you it's all anxiety. If you haven't tried therapy to help with this, I think it would be very worthwhile! Learning to relax like you are when with friends is what you need to do. Therapy can teach you how to do this. You may even try to do this on your own. Our throats are designed for us to be able to swallow, taking small bites and chewing your food thoroughly gurantees you won't choke. But for you to get over this fear may be difficult and that's where therapy comes in. I hope this helps, good luck and take care!
