Hi
I have a business and I had an inspection yesterday. I have always heard that this lady who does the inspections is really mean and awful. I have heard this for years. Finally it was my turn. Soon after she arrived I had a panic attach. I got so dizzy. The room was spinning. She got me a glass of water and told me she was in no way there to intimidate me. She calmed me down and also told me her story about being stopped by a police officer. she said she also gets anxiety at times.  turns out she was very nice and i had nothing to worry about. When my Dad passed away 5 years ago I got them all the time. It's been so long long since I have had one. It really scared me. I am in menopause now and I wonder can that be a factor. Should I see a Dr. or just wait to see if I get any more.

Your hormones are all over the place during menopause which may play a role here.  Since you had panic attacks in the past you may want to think about some therapy to learn how to cope better or differently.  There's a good lesson here...don't listen to others who say bad things about someone, she turned out to be a nice person and you got all worked up for nothing. Take care.

Since your panic attack episodes have both been "situational," I don't think you need therapy at all. You experienced some anxiety 5 years ago when your father passed away. Anxiety attacks at the time of bereavement are very common. That they stopped completely until it was YOUR turn to face the Dreaded Dragon Queen of Inspections...........it's not surprising at all that you had an anxiety attack, nor that it scared you! But look how that turned out.........she was very kind and compassionate and you probably passed your inspection with flying colors!
Menopause can be a sort of "grab bag" time as far as anxiety goes. Some women have anxiety attacks for the first time ever, some women stop having them completely, some have a few, some have worse ones...........and most don't have any at all. Don't start worrying about what may happen. If you do begin to have more frequent anxiety, your Gyno will have options to help you. Menopause can be a challenge, there's no doubt about that, but it's a natural phase of a woman's life and we don't need therapy to get through that either!
As to your question, (finally!) I believe you should put this anxiety attack behind you and get on with your life and your newly inspected business. You know exactly why you had the anxiety attack and that's over now. My advice........wait and see. I think you'll be waiting a very long time!
Peace

Since these attacks are so hard on you, and you get them during stressful times, a therapist can teach you how to handle these types of situations without having a panic attack.  Life is full of stressful events, you don't want to have, or worry about a panic attack during them.  It's not a big deal to learn a few good coping skills, and it can only help you.  Take care!

thank you so much for some good advise. I am going to try and relax about this. I am going to try some Yoga classes  in the future, that from a very good friends advise. I do appreciate this site so much. I use it from time to time. It really does help.
