shortness of breath/hyperventilation

by Stretch132, May 11, 2009 04:20PM
About two weeks ago, I started having trouble breathing.  I was constantly trying to get a deep breath but it didn't feel like i was getting enough air.  I frequently have to yawn in order to satisfy my air needs and to get a good deep breath.  I can sometimes feel that my chest tightens and I get light headed.  On Tuesday, April 14, 2009, I started having worse symptoms and my chest started hurting.  I went to the Emergency Room and they did and EKG, took chest X-Rays, took blood, and put me on a heart monitor.  I was told everything checked out fine and that it could be the start of Asthma or Anxiety related.  I have been reading the other comments on this topic and it seems there is no real answer for my problem.  The ER Doctor gave me an inhaler (albuterol) and a RX for Xanax.  The inhaler doesn't seem to help and I don't want to take the Xanax unless I know for a fact that it is stress related.

Do you have any suggestions for my problem?

The only suggestion that I have is when you feel this coming on try to practice deep breathing.  I experience the same thing at times.  It's not constant so that assures me that it's anxiety related.  I hope that helps..take care.

It has taken me three months to come tothe conclusion that I have this same exact problem from anxiety although I dont know why. I accepted it last week and now its seems to SLOWLY SLOWLY be getting better. Its not that we cant take that deep breath, its that we are trying to take to many.

Try and relax, take a Xanax, load up on B vitamins, take a calcium/magnesium supplement, stop worrying(Hard I know) Get plenty of rest and try to find whats making you anxious, what in your life isnt right, is just too much to handle or something buried away in your subconscious.

And DONT EVER think you will not get enough air or it will never go away...you'll drive yourself crazy
God bless,
Geoffrey
