sleep disturbances

Help! I seem to have such worry and anxiety that when i try and rest during the day because of lack of sleep at night, It is like i just begin to fall asleep and then, BAM, I wake up freaking out. Panic or racing thoughts still going on while trying to fall asleep. It is like I can't take a nap at all. I end up not, then by 12 am I am so tired that I fall a sleep for a while. then up again with the racing thoughts. Help is anyone else feeling this way! I am taking xanax now up to 2mg day. But the racing thoughts are still there. When I take the xanax, I am just calmer about the thoughts. I am thinking about taking lexapro because the xanax just isn't resolving the whole picture! But my main question again, does anyone experience this?

Have you ever tried to keep track of these thoughts? Keep track of your mood, the mood leads to thoughts, the thoughts lead to reactions, reactions lead to symptoms. If we just sat down for five seconds and took a deep breath and wrote down the very four things I mentioned and tried to find the pattern in your situation. Could you have thought a different way? Reacted a different way? It is like once we feel the normal trigger we react and think as we always do. Thus thinking inwardly and freaking out as your case may be. The extra medication you say you may get, is that to ease you? The xanax is getting rid of the thoughts, if I am reading your post right? Maybe you need something more longer acting than xanax. Great quick fix for instant panic. But wears off after a few hours. The best one to discuss the medication with is your doctor. But he may alter it all. Something stronger and longer lasting. Help you sleep at night too. Nothing worse than when you can't sleep. Is bound to have you more on edge. That's normal. I am sure others will offer other opinions to your post as well. But get to your doctor and have a word about medication change. Explaining how anxious you are and how you can't sleep. It all adds up and I am sure he will have the answer.
