something to calm my nerves, tried paxil

I have been going through a lot of stress lately and my anxiety has come back full force. i have gone through some surgery and my anxiety was kickin weeks before surgery and is still going strong. I tried paxil a few years ago and did not like it. what is an alternative medication to calm me down. I need something to slightly chill me out.

I guess i am asking so when I go to the doc I know what to ask for or what I am getting. Is there a difference between paxil, celexea, cymbalta and effexor?
