speech problems - anxiety?

Hi

On another forum i've read that some people have experienced something similar to what i am having, but can find no mention of this on any list of anxiety symptoms, including anxietycentre.

I am seeing a neurologist this week but i just want to know if anyone else gets the following and / or knows if it can be anxiety-related.

for three weeks my speech has been affected in three ways:

1. my 's', 't', 'r' and some other sounds i find hard to pronounce - almost like my tongue can't quite pronounce them. the 's' sounds like a 'shh'.
Most people say they can't hear this but i can hear and feel it almost all the time.

2. my jaw feels stiff and won't always work, although when i 'check' it i can open it as wide as usual.

3. sometimes the wrong word comes out or the order of words in a sentence is mixed up a little.

in conjunction i have tingling and twitching sensations on my tongue, roof of my mouth and icy cold sensation on my cheek, plus muscle twitches in the soles of my feet and palms of my hands.

i know these tinglings and twitches can be from anxiety, but what about the speech?

any comments most appreciated. I don't want horror stories - i have a problem with health anxiety and therefore am already paranoid about MS etc, just want to know if it could possibly be anxiety.

Thanks!

Hi, I believe that can be anxiety related. I thankfully havent had that symptom...yet! Here is a link that lists common anxiety symptoms. It has been very helpful for me. http://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety-symptoms.shtml

Best of luck to you!

When I began my anxiety  problems, I used to feel that my speech was slurred also and a pressure on the roof of my mouth...it was my anxiety.  But, I am glad that you are going to a neurologisst just to make sure....

The way I knew it was anxiety was that it would go away after a really good cry or when I sang at the top of my lungs in the car as I drove...I guess after releasing my anxiety I felt a little better for a while...This is just my experience.

I wish you the best!  Keep us posted!

I'm going to have to go with two and three for myself. Albeit, 90% of the time adrenaline kicks in and I just make an ass of myself, especially at work where I'm already sweating to death and my heart is racing.
