spitting blood

hi all,

        just wondering if anyone could answer my question i have been to the doctors several times and complained to him about spitting blood. Mr doctor just turns round and says i have just probably cut my throat. But the bit that is making me anxious is that this has been happening for 3-4 month now and is starting to make me scared, But yet if it is a cut throat should or shoul'nt it have healed up by now. I also get sharp pains in my chest and shortness of breath and i am only at the young age of 23.

If anyone could tell me if they have the same problem or could offer me any advice then please could you get in touch with me asap.

I feel your doctor is making too light of this subject.  It could just be strain, but it could be more.  You need to call your doctor and tell him you want a CHEST X-RAY asap.  It could be many different things....pnemonia (pneumonia), severe bronchitis, pluerasy (sp?)or tuberculosis....????  I would definitely persue it.  If not that doctor..find someone else...there is also the emergency room if it is really bad.  Best to you.  Please post back and let us know how you are.

I would go see a new doctor. I agree with suzi-q, get a chest xray. You have been spitting up blood to long to be a cut throat.

I think I'd get a second opinion also.  Do you know how you cut your throat?  I've never cut my throat on the inside so that it would bleed... sounds odd.  But I suppose it's possible.

I don't think blood should ever be taken lightly.  I would continue seeking help until you are absolutely certain you understand what's going on.  If you are in doubt... your doc needs to clear it up for you.
