Hi NurseGirl

In one of your comment you mentioned like below.

"If a needle actually is injected into a vein (and the needle contained infectious blood), then theoretically there would be a slight risk.  HOWEVER, without injection of blood that was trapped in the bore of the needle (as in a drug sharing scenario)...there really isn't much to worry about"

I confused on your statement as you mentioned a THEORETICAL risk for "injection with reused needle" and NO risk for "reused needle without injection". But the first one is similar to IV drug user scenario and second one is like percutanious needle stick injuries in labs which are both risky exposures.

What factors made you to gave the staments like that? Please let me know if my thinking is wrong. Because I went thro a more than one needle pokes at a time by a nurse while blood drawing

Thanks

Hi.  I understand your worry but trust me, they have strict guidelines to prevent exactly what you're worried about.  Carrying the needle into the other room is not a problem for anyone. I hope this helps and take care.

Again, no risk.  This is not a rational worry....and if you can't seem to shake it, you really do need to look into addressing your anxiety with a professional.  I say that in a caring manner, not to be mean.  Your question was not offensive at all.

When the nurse failed to get blood in tubes after 3-4 pokes, she asked me to come to another room where she tried to get blood (with me in laying position on a bed). My question is, is she again get a new needle while doing venipuncure in another room? Because it might be risk for her or others if she goes from one room to another with open needle in her hand while is already tried on me in first room

Bottom line is people do not get infected through having their blood drawn, period.  It is an irrational thought and if you continue to think that way, then it is time to seek some professional help.
