trying to get of these meds

Please if anyone can help I would be very grateful. I have been taking alprazolam since 2007 was up to 2mg a day sometimes 1.5mg I was very strict with myself as far as not over doing it. I have been dealing with anxiety since I was 16 and am now 45 and I dealt with it on my own without drugs as would just have panic attacks now and again. Then in 2007 I started to get them pretty bad and was in and out of the ER and they would sedate me with ativan...then I went to my Dr's who decided to put me on the alprazolam and ever since then have been taking them, then about almost 2 months ago I started get bad attacks again and my Dr believed I was having withdrawals from the alprazolam and that's why I was having these attacks so put me on 2mg of clonazepam twice a day to ween me of the alprazolam! this didn't last long as it was too strong for me as I was still taking the alprazolam! so started taking just 1mg twice a day which cut me down to 0.5 to just a quarter of the alprazolam a day! but on my own about two weeks ago I have cut down the clonazepam to just 0.5 in the morning and at night as I want of all these meds as the clonazepam are making me so tired and I am barley staying awake! I think it might be the combination of taking both together..this is so had as I'm not feeling good at all am still having attacks how do I get of all this as I'm scared of seizers and withdrawals...please help me if anyone is going through what I am I just want to drug free and not take anything as since I have been taking these meds it has been worse for me...please help..thank you

It's difficult to say at this point if this is withdrawal or your anxiety returning.  Were you prescribed your medications by a psychiatrist? They are most knowlegable. It may be that these medications were not right for you.  You may be weaning yourself off too quickly, and you're weaning off two medications rather quickly.  This should always be done under the guidance of your doctor.  It may be best to go back to your doctor and go from there. Many live with anxiety and panic attacks for the rest of their lives and symptoms are controlled with the medication. So, it's hard to say if the lower amount of medication is making your panic return, or if it's withdrawal. A qualified doctor would know what is best and how to make this easiest on you. I'm sure there are others who can offer you some additional advice on this, and I do hope you can get some relief.  Take care~~
