valium question

I have GAD.  This morning I took 2.5mg. of valium and waited an hour and nothing.  So, I took the other 2.5 mg.  2 hours later,  whoa..... quite sedated!  I have to be someplace this evening  so I'm hoping that the effects will ease up just a bit.
Is this normal?  I guess I should have waited longer on the 2.5mg. but from all I've read,  it takes anywhere from 20 min. to one hour to get full effect and when I felt nothing after an hour,  I took the other half.
I feel better as far as my anxiety and I'm actually hungry.  I get anxiety induced nausea and I don't do well with SSRI's.

It's been checked.  I go in for frequent tests like hormones, thyroid etc...  all normal.

get your thyroid checked. It causes all kinds of mental issues, and these are not really affected by meds, as the thyroid hormone overpowers all the medications.

UPDATE:  It's now a bit later and I'm no longer real sedated.  I ate lunch and maybe that helped.  But this stuff really doesn't do anything for my anxiety induced nausea.  I'm going to stick with my beloved compazine.  I talked with my pharmacist and he put my fears to rest.  So for now... it's compazine all the way baby.
