virus affecting anxiety?

on friday morning i woke up sweating, and had a slight fever and a very sore throat.
havent had much of a appitite.
went to the clinic yesterday to check out what was going on.
doctor checked my glands which hurt when he pressed on them, then did a swab on my throat to check for strep.
results came back negative. doctor told me to get plenty of rest, fluids and vitiman c.
my throat is stilll very sore, and ive had a low fever for 3 days now. not straight though.
im taking tylenol for the pain
but im just curious, my doctor told me i have a weak ammune system which can effect my anxiety when im sick.
my anxiety has been through the roof!
the one thing im scared of is that i do have strep and im not on antibiotics and ill get rheumatic fever which affects the heart.
im scared its not a virus but something serious and ill die.
is this my anxiety?
my mom is sure its a virus. i have nothing but a slight fever, very sore throat and a dull headache.
im hoping its just a virus and nothing serious.
how long will it take to go away?
thanks.

ILADVOCATE is right your test came back negative it's not strep usually in my case when I really do have strep my throat doesn't hurt at all. And when I have those horrible unbearable soar throats it's just a virus. Best thing to do is rest, plenty of fluids and maybe a numbing spray to help relieve the pain. Also anxiety will weaken the immune system because of the stress we put ourselves under. So just relax your not going to die, hope ypu feel better soon.

If the test came back negative you don't have strep throat. That's clear. Just rest up and relax and if don't feel well keep in touch with the doctor. Anxiety disorder is not my specific psychiatric disability but that experience is familiar to me and why I was originally prescribed Klonopin. Every time I went to the doctor with something minor I thought it was something worse until my recent recovery. You certainly did the right thing to go to the doctor but he's right about one thing which is anxiety attacks will only make you feel worse. Try to put concerns about various illnesses that you don't have out of mind. But if this is some kind of phobia that takes over your life a lot it is worth speaking to your psychiatrist about and certainly a talk therapist. Everyone gets colds at this time of year. Its important to keep that in mind.
