was going so well. WEIRD SYMPTOM!! PLEASE HELP!!!

by niamac, Oct 09, 2008 12:21PM
Hey everyone,
I havent posted here for a while because recently ive been feeling a bit better. But this wasnt to last. Today something REALLY weird has happened and im really hoping someone out there can tell me its happened to them too. I was just sat at my computer listening to some music when all of a sudden it was like i couldnt hear properly, as if everything was going quiet, then loud, then qiet.... it made me have this really strange head rush feeling, as if my brain was rattling inside my head. I jumped up out of my seat and had all of these horrible thoughts going through my mind, i felt for a second as if nothing was real and i was going insane, i thought the horrible electric feeling in my head would never go away.
For the past few days my head has felt like theres something heavy inside there, or a bubble of air, ive also had sharp pains in my ear!
Could someone please reasure me, have i got schizophrenia? am i dying?
I have had a CT head scan, blood tests, adrenal test, ECG, heart monitor ive had doctors look in my ears and eyes.
Can anyone help me? I really dont want to be schizophrenic.
Thanks everyone.

First of all, what you describe is not schizophrenic...it is due to anxiety.  Health anxiety can really throw people for a loop.  If you have had all of these tests, my advice to you is to trust your doctors.  When we have health anxiety, we tend to focus on every little symptom in our bodies and tend to think the worst.  My health anxiety had stemmed from heart health.  I run between 6-8 miles 6x a week and actually had sharp chest pains for a few seconds...now it could have totally freaked me out, but I have had tests saying my heart is fine...the point is, we all have something really wierd happen to us on a daily basis but in my opinion we can magnify the problem 10 fold....also, remember, that axiety can ebb and flow just like life...keep us posted!

Thanks for that!
I guess i just need to deal with the weird things that happen. Its just so scary.

Oh and i should mention that the episode i had today only lasted about 20 seconds, so could it still have been a panic attack? Dont panic attacks have to be longer than that?

Panic attacks can last 5 seconds to 12 hours believe me I have them all the time....don't fret just think positive and don't let your brain take over have you ever tryed self talk? it works great once you get the hang of it...your not going crazy!!!  Let us know how your doing ok

Thanks, ok so maybe it was an attack. But is it possible to have a panic attack without any heart palps, but with weird headrushes instead?

Hi,
Yes it is so possible!  I usually get the head rushes vs. the heart palpitations.  I get burning and stinging in my face and head and it is awful!  I hate having the anxiety and just wish that it would disappear!  I feel your pain girl!

I have had anxiety too. When I had my panic attack I felt like the room was spinning- even when I closed my eyes and was lying down. I didn't have any heart palps, at least not that I can remember. I also got really clammy and yucky feeling. Thankfully it didn't last for more then a few hours and I haven't had one that bad since.
I also wanted to reiterate what Jennykins said about self talk. This really helped me. I would just tell myself I was going to get though it, I prayed the whole time too:). But another thing my counselor told me about was to just let myself feel what was happening to me. Panic attacks can feel like you are dying or having a heart attack but if you have gotten checked out like cj29 talked about you know that you shouldn't be dying but are probably having a panic attack. Just feel what you body is doing and know that Panic Attacks don't kill you! They can be scary but no one, at least not that my counselor knows of, has ever died from a panic attack. Breathe and try and relax, it will be over soon.
Have you figured out what makes you anxious or what your triggers might be?

lol man. yes, that was a panic attack. i spend most of my free time on computers listening to music and it happens to me all the time. its  nothing to worry about. i dont really know what causes it to happen. its like your perfectly fine one second and then out of know where you find yourself freaking out thinking your going to die in different ways but you'll be fine. just relax and if its really bad try taking a deep breath and stick your head in the freezer lol sounds kinda wierd but it works for me. idk theres just something about cold that makes me feel better. next time you get a panic attack try that cuz when you have one you get hot flashes most of the time and the cold air might help relax a little more.

Hi...going through the stabbing as we speak!  It is just awful I know!  It's like when one symptom goes away another one comes with it!

hi everybody. i've never posted on anything like this but i would just like to get some advice and would appreciate anything you could offer. about 4 months ago i had a severe panic attack with follow up attacks that lasted about 3 and a half months. i haven't had one for a few weeks but now i feel like i have constant anxiety and today i woke up feeling very dizzy and just all around strange? is this dizziness normal?

by Shelley900, Oct 17, 2008 09:35AM

Hi! Yeah, honestly, try and not worry about this - the dizziness is one of the most common anxiety symptoms and I used to have it all day every day and it is such a pain! It used to really freak me out as I have a health anxiety and so this dizziness would just make things x100 worse for me! It used to be so bad for me that I couldn't even go into a shop, supermarket, anywhere in public really without feeling dizzy.  Even some mornings, I would wake up thinking "Oh, I feel really good today" and then all of a sudden, the dizziness would just hit me all of a sudden, so you're definitely not alone with this!  Shelley

by seejackrunguitar, Oct 17, 2008 09:57AM
thank you so so much Shelley!! I really appreciate that. It's really nice to hear someone who's had the same experience as me give me insight. One more question, is it common to wake up some mornings and feel as if things aren't even real? Like... almost... you kinda feel like a zombie in a weird way? Sorry, i realize that's a really strange way to put it but i can't think of another way to say it. Anyways, i really appreciate the response and God bless.

No problem! I know how nice it is to know that you're not alone with this and have someone to talk to about it, just for some re-assurance! Yeah, I know what you mean - I think this is what's called 'de-personalisation', like, you don't really feel as if you are actually attached to reality... If you know what I mean :-)

I am so stunned to see your post- I posted the same thing myself just a while ago- I don't understand how these things just happen- I have the same symptom happen to me, it's so strange how so many people can experience the same thing.

Taking a deep breath does help, and not focusing on it after its over... sometimes I think that it may be a sinus issue affecting the ears.

Have a better day tomorrow...

and my best therapy is usually just keeping busy with things at church and yes, prayer also helps a lot.

have you thought about the possibility of it being an inner ear infection, this can do strange things to the balance, aches and sharp pains. xx
