werid feelings in head.

ive been suffering with anxiety and deppression for about 5 months now but my anxiety and panic attacks seem to be geting better but i still cant convince myself all the symptoms are just because of anxity. can you have constant anxiety symptoms? i feel pain in muscles, frequent stabing pains in face and head, internal shaking, i feel unreal and werid all the time, but the most worrieing symtom i get is as im drifting in to sleep i get a kind of rush feeling inside my head and my face goes all hot or i feel a jolt followed by a dull pain behind my nose then after that i feel like i have somthing moving in my head. I havent had a good nights sleep in ages and im exhausted all the time. Any feedback would be muchly apreciated
much thanks.

Many of your symptoms sound like fairly classic anxiety to me. I suggest a long talk with your doctor to rule out an organic cause of these symptoms. It IS very hard for those of us with anxiety/panic to accept that these very real physical symptoms can be caused by anxiety alone. But once everything has been ruled out, and anxiety is the only card left on the table, then we need to accept that dx and begin to work on dealing with that, just as we would any other dx.

You have no idea how hesitant I am to say what I'm about to, but for what I believe is your own safety, I feel I must warn you about one particular "natural" remedy that was mentioned above.

At THIS point I want to make it EXTREMELY clear that I have absolutely no problem with anyone attempting to deal with any medical/mental issues using natural approaches to their healing, no matter what form that takes. My one and ONLY caveat about these methods is that you seek the help and guidance of a qualified and licensed naturopathic or homeopathic practicioner. I site this caution as too many people are still under the impression that since it's "natural," it can't hurt us. This is a myth that can prove deadly. I am NOT nit picking at those wishing to go a natural route to wellness. I say virtually the same thing to those using pharmaceuticals.......that just becuase it was an MD who prescribed you a medication, does not mean no harm can come to you. This forum is adequate proof of that.

The one medicinal plant metioned above that I have a problem with is Atropa belladonna. Atropine is an alkaloid (a family of chemicals with pharmocologic activity and a commom structure) that affects the nervous system. It is found in deadly nightshade, also known as Atropa belladonna. Atropine is available as a prescription drug, synthesized in the laboratory (from Atropic belladona) and is used for a number of lesser ailments, but it's leading use in hospitals is to restore or control heart function. Atropines chemical class is listed as "belladonna alkaloid."

(I obtained the above information from a book we keep on hand at the hospital called "HealthNotes: Drug-Herb and Vitamin Interactions," and is co-authored by Schuyler W. Liniger, Jr. DC, editor in chief, Alan R. Gaby MD, Steve Austin ND, Forrest Batz PharmD, Eric Yarnell ND, Donald J. Brown ND and George Constantine Rph, PhD)
I have no doubt that belladonna used in the qualified, professioanl and highly trained hands of naturopaths or homeopathic doctors can be of benefit. What I AM saying is that it is NOT a substance for the untrained.
Many years ago while I was experiencing a panic attack, a friend told me to take a few drops of belladonna. I was told it would relax me. Instead, it landed me in the hospital with a suspected heart attack. Live and learn. I was glad I lived so I could learn.

I would like to say that I am not "accusing" anyone of telling you to drive on down to the health food store and start popping all these remedies. I believe the above poster said that "homeopathy helped me slightly a bit, try atropa belladonna............."  I will assume this statement means he took this with the guidance of a homeopthic doctor.

However we find our help, our hope or our cures and whichever path we choose to look down for that help, the bottom line for ALL of us is to be safe and knowledgable of what it is we are taking into our bodies.

I wish you the very best
Peace
Greenlydia
