xanax to klonopin

So, I've firmly decided that yesterday's dose of lexapro would be my first and last one. My doctor gave me a prescription for Klonopin to replace my xanax but I havent started it yet. I have severe health anxiety and the possibility of Xanax withdrawal scares me to death. I've been taking Xanax 1.5mg a day for exactly a moth and a half. Before that, I used to only take 0.25mg a day. My doctor says the switch should not be a problem but from the many posts that I've read here, some people seem to think you have to taper.
Please, anybody, share your experience switching from xanax to clonazepam. I would greatly appreciate it. Yesterday was one of the hardest days of my life( with the lexapro horror) and I really need to come up with some sort of plan to deal with this constant panic while doing my psychotherapy.
Thank you in advance.
God bless.
Tina

You're so funny!!  About the Lexapro story.  I'm anxious to hear more before I take the 1st pill.  I was also on Xanax 1.5/daily and switched to Klonopin without any tapering or whatever. The Klonopin is sooo much better!!

You should have no problem switching from xanax to klonopin.  I was on 0.25mg xanax 4 x day for a very long time. Doc switched me to 0.5mg klonopin 2 x day. He told me I did not have to taper, that I will have no withdrawal whatsoever. He was right, I had no problem at all switching. I had no kind of withdrawal at all. Good luck.

Tapering xanax to switch over to klonopin would probably be easiest for you. Discuss a taper plan with your doc. I tapered of xanax after using 1.5mg a day for 2months. I had some difficulty doing that but I wasn't switching to another med. Having klonopin will make it so much easier. Just talk to your talk about a slow taper/switch over. They'll know best on how to do it.

hey, i never used xanax but i use klonopin (clonazepam) and it works well for me. it usually takes about 30-45 mins to kick in but when it does im clam and settled. try not to make a habit of these drugs tho they tend to be addictive, benzos dont correct the problem they only provide a temporary band-aid, im guessing your using psychotherapy as an alternative to the lexapro is actually curing your anxiety?
