Low Progestrone so early on

by nicolette82, Aug 25, 2008 05:57PM
I found out I was pregnant on Friday via home test, so I visited the doctor same day to confirm with a blook test. This morning they called to have me come back to do another blood test because it was too early to tell, and that my levels should be more clear today. My progestrone went from 9 to 7.7 today. I'm only 5 weeks. They suggested I start taking oral progestrone as early as tonight and come back on Wednesday for another blood test. I was neverous to take hormones without really being given any time to think about it. Is it too early? I don't know anything about if this is normal... side effects, etc.? I decided to wait to not take it at this time and go back on Friday and see if there is any changes for the better without taking it. Is this carless or cautious? I would like to know if any one has had problems because they have NOT taken any progestrone so early on. Besides that all symptoms have been normal. Light cramping, brest tenderness, slight fatigue, no morning sickness yet though. Thank you.

My progesterone was low during my last 4 pgs.  Two ended in m/c and I'm 6.5 wks along with the 4th pg.  I started taking Prometrium as soon as the dr called to let me know, except for this last pg in which I started the progesterone 2DPO.  The 1st m/c was probably a blighted ovum and no amount of progesterone would have made any difference.  The next pg resulted in my 2nd DD who is now 4.  The 2nd m/c could have been due to my age, clotting disorders, and/or hypothyroidism because my progesterone was just barely low.  My progesterone has been better this time, but time will tell how it all turns out.

Progesterone is something your body makes anyway, so don't be afraid to take it.  If it saves your baby, it will be worth it.  Best wishes.

Thank you for comment. I appreciate it. These forums can be scary and the outcome is hardly posted. My progestrone went up to 29 as of Friday from a week of taking the Prometrium, however Saturday I started to bleed a little, then more Sun, and Mon. Today I went to the doctor and while I have not yet miscarried, it's inevitable. Thanks again. And best wishes to you.

I am soooo sorry.  It is very difficult to go through.  It helps to find someone who's been through it to talk to.  I did that after my 2nd m/c and then I was able to help someone else who m/c'd about a month after I did.  You and your family are in my prayers.
