19 year old son with osteoarthritis

by kms48, Oct 24, 2009 08:31PM
My 19 year old son was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in May - just recd second cortisone shot (trying to do this before the SYNVISC shots) and both of his knees are completely swollen.  Have a call into the doctor but any suggestions on what to do for him in the meantime.  He is at college.  Thanks

I am sorry your son is going through this at such a young age!  I hope by now you have heard back from the doctor and that he is doing better.  I find that when my joints are very swollen, nothing feels better than ice.  When my joints are not horribly swollen, heat helps them feel better.
Do they have him on an NSAID?  What are they giving him for pain?
