Ankle Pain

I'm posting this under arthritis b/c Its the closest excuse for this pain I get in my ankles. For years now whenever I run after a few seconds (somethings longer) My ankles "give out"! I get a sharp shooting pain in my ankle, its never both of them at the same time its usually one or the other but recently when I was running one ankle gave out and 3 seconds later the next one did the same. The pain is so strong and fast! Its like I lose control of my feet, whenever it happens i'm always close to falling to the ground because I cant control it, it just happens out of nowhere! I know this is not normal & this dosen't happen every single time I fun but it dose happen 75% - 85% of the time. I'm only 20 years old so this concerns me a lot! Is there anyone with similar issues?

Have you seen a doctor for your symptoms? I know you "youngsters" {grin} don't like to go to the doctor - I have two kids about your age - but like you said, this doesn't sound normal. You may have some sort of congenital (born with it) deformity that is causing the problem. It could be corrected with surgery, or through physical therapy and shoe inserts. You won't know until you are properly diagnosed. I would suggest an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in feet and ankle issues. This doesn't mean you need surgery, but in my experience, if there's any possibility you need it, go with the orthopedic surgeon and NOT a podiatrist. A podiatrist is okay for non-surgical interventions such as custom-made orthotics, but both my mother and my sister let podiatrists operate on them with bad results. I'm sure there are good ones out there, but for me personally, no one's cutting into my feet who doesn't have "surgeon" after their name. :)  Good luck!
