Arthritis after Ileal Pouch Surgery for Ulcerative Colitis

I suffered from active ulcerative colitis for 10 years until I had surgery to remove entire large colon followed up a year later by the creation of an ileal pouch.  This was 15 years ago.  I am now having arthritis symptoms - swelling and pain in my fingers, elbow, ankles and feet and sometimes my knees.  I am also having lots of inflammation and pain in my right shoulder and neck.  Could this be as a result of my ulcerative colitis?  What kind of arthritis usually results in this case?  I cannot get into the arthritis specialist until December and am looking for some kind of relief before then.  Thanks.

UC is one of the spondylotharapies and there are a few forms of arthritis in the same family.  It is possible that your symptoms are related, but they could also be another form of arthritis or autoimmune disorder.  Have you tried any of the over-the-counter treatments such as Tylenol Arthritis?  If so, did that help?  Other choices include topicals such as biofreeze or stop pain, wraps and pain patches, massage, accupuncture, heating pads, etc.  I know December must feel like an eternity because you are in pain.  Let us know what you have tried, how it is working for you and we will be here to help and support you.
