Arthritis on knees

Hello Doctor,
My father ,aged 50,is suffering from arthritis for 6 months...he cant even take a single step!
We consulted many doctors,they said to suck out the fluid on the knee with a specialized injection....But many told it may be dangerous to his knees.....I am very confused what to do?
Please guide me........

Hi there!

The knee fluid is not typically ‘taken out’ but rather ‘injected in’ patients with arthritis. If fluid is taken out in arthritis it would need to be substituted with similar substances. The fluid is ‘taken out’ with other issues such as bursitis, infections etc. I would suggest discussing the situation and the appropriate management plan in detail with his treating doctor.

Sir,thanks for the reply.........
Doctor, my father has bulging on both knees.....
we live in chennai,Tamil nadu...consulted almost all doctors here...........
They say the only cure in taking the fluid through some specialized syringe....
They also prescribed some psychotherapy....but it worsen the pain to him.....

This is likely to be due to joint effusion or bursitis and taking the fluid out may be indicated in such cases. It is not a high risk procedure and has a good chance of recovery/ relief. I would discussing in detail with your treating orthopedician.
