Can you battle Psoriatic Arthritis naturally?

I have developed this problem recently with some fingers and toes swollen, I see horror stories all over from people using prescription meds like Humira and Embrel, is there anything a person can do to battle this problem naturally? Would exercise help or make the swollen joints worse? What about natural herbs?

Immuno-suppression is a major concern for almost all of us here. Too bad we can't make a sticky for something like that.

Excerpt from a former reply, I posted here a while back, which may be of interest to you.

"I have done specific research on Biologics, including Enbrel and Humira,

I really wish they wouldn't use "arthritis" and "cure" in the same headline. *sigh* But I guess it's all about racking up we site hits.

The article has some good information about caring for yourself and supporting your body as best you can, but nothing I haven't heard before. And yes, *sometimes* the underlying cause of RA symptoms might be an infection or an allergy, aka "reactive arthritis." Any good rheumatologist will rule those out right off the bat.

So it's not a bad article, it's the headline I have an issue with - however I know how the Google Analytics games is played, so it's hard to get to angry at them. :)

yes, me too, too much fried foods seems to have some effect on me but still experimenting with tomatoes and potatoes, I think I can have them but in moderation only.

IMO it's a good place to start. Just keep in mind that you may have specific food triggers that may or may not be a typical "inflammatory" food. Tomatoes, for example. They've never bothered me, but too much fried food does. Taking an echinacea supplement during cold/flu season sets my joints off, so I would stay away from any supplement advertised to "boost your immune system." :)

Thanks for the advice guys! Yes, I realize, exercise and diet have to be a priority, I am starting on the exercise and Yoga and have adjusted my diet since last year and trying to get better at it, where anti-inflammatory die goes, can you guys tell me if there is anything better than this please?

I have RA, not PA, but many symptoms overlap, and from talking with other PA patients over the years, the treatments are very similar. :)

As long as you're asking about natural treatments, one thing I can tell you is that anything you need to do to reduce stress in your life, do it. Anything (or anyone) that's a drain on your precious physical, mental, and emotional energy, eliminate it.

You'll find if you talk to a lot of patients,many of them are experimenting with different types of diets (like the anti-inflammatory or gluten free), trying different energy healing therapies like Reiki, trying exercise techniques like yoga and tai chi. Listen to your body and do what you enjoy doing.

Exercise can benefit a lot to people who are suffering from arthritis. In a study it was shown that approximately 53% of people who have arthritis problem do not exercise or go for a walk. Beyond exercise walking is suggested by doctors in arthritis problem. Walking strengthens muscles and joints by increase blood circulation in those parts.

Hi there,

Please don't be so quick to reject prescription medication. For every horror story there are dozens for whom the meds have literally been a lifesaver. I am one of them. I've been on Enbrel several years with no serious side effects and complete relief from RA flare-ups. There's a good chance it'll work for you too, but you won't know unless you try. Every patient is as different as a fingerprint.

Having said that, it is ALWAYS your choice, your body! If you're determined to try the natural route, don't rely on the internet for information. Go see a certified naturopath.

Exercise is never a bad idea. No matter how bad you hurt, try to find a way to move. Your joints will thank you in the long run. Hang in there!
