Thank you, all of the information help especially the wrist splint. I have reduced my typing to a limited time. Thank you again.
You can try and treat some of the symptoms at home, however, doing so will not "get rid" of the problem. Surgical intervention may be necessary.
Some things you can do to help alleviate the pain and other symptoms of carpal tunnel are:
a) avoiding long periods of time doing repetititve things such as typing whenever possible -
b) purchase and wear a wrist splint - I believe they make some especially for carpal tunnel - check with the pharmacist at your drugstore - but you need something more than a simple ACE bandage wrap.
c) OTC anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen or Aleve may help with pain and inflammation.
d) you can also try icing the area, espeically when it's acting up - it also will help reduce inflammation
As I said, these things will not eliminate the carpal tunnel - only surgery can do that - but they may help you reduce your symptoms and postpone your need for surgery.
Best of luck.
