Ciprodex used in a perforated eardrum

Ciprodex used in a perforated eardrum

I see that Ciprodex should not be use where the eardrum is perforated. I have been using Ciprodex since 2004 in my right ear, which has aperforated eardrum. Does this mean that the Ciprodex is entering my blood stream?
Is it possible that the pains in my left leg are such as those reported by many Cipro (as opposed to Ciprodex) users, aching knee, possibly tendinitus?

I don't have any experience with a perforated eardrum, but recently I have heard anecdotes from others that some antibiotics can cause tendon rupture. I've had rheumatoid arthritis all my life and used antibiotics like Cipro all my life and never had a tendon problem, so I'm a little skeptical.

Perhaps you could check with your doctor or even a pharmacist, who is often more up to date on side effects and interactions.

I looked up Ciprodex because I wasn't sure what it was. It's a combination of Cipro, an antibiotic (obviously! ;)) and a corticosteroid. It's used to treat/prevent infection and reduce inflammation in the ear.

My non-medical guess is that the small amount contained in the drops would not have a systemic affect. I take eye drops for glaucoma which contain the same type of medicine in blood pressure pills, but the drops have no effect on my blood pressure (blood pressure pills have no effect on my glaucoma, either).  Again, I'm unconvinced that topically applied Ciprodex would get into your bloodstream, at least not in any amount that it would lead to tendonitis.
