Giant cell

by kate1975, Sep 17, 2008 10:11AM
Hi, I am 33 and just found out that I have polymyalgia. I have been having much pain in the sides of my head and jaw. Yesterday I almost lost all of my vision. My Rhumatologist had me go into ER. Where I was given 60 Mg. of Prednisone and my ESR was checked. it had gone up to 78 from 48 1 month ago.Looks like i am going to have a Biopsy. Is that painful????? I have been through so much, I am getting tougher but would love to know from someone that has had it.

THANKS...PS... Any one else my age with this stuff??

Hi Kate.  I don't have polymalgia, but I have widespread pain so I can relate to your condition in that way.  I am sorry to read you that you have had your symptoms worsen and now have to have a biopsy.  My experience with biopsies is limited but the ones I have had were not as bad as they sounded or as I expected.  There was discomfort and some pain but it passed in a few days.
There are members of our forum who are your age and younger.  Me, I have about a decade on you, but it still feels young to have my body betray me this way.  I spent 2 years feeling older than my 90 year old grandmother.  It does get better with treatment.  Best news is I read polymyalgia generally goes away within a few years.  I hope that you bring that average down!
Let us know how you are doing and how your tests and treatments progress.
