HIGH RA Factor

I am 24 years old and I recently had blood work to test my RA factor. My mother has rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus. I know that a normal reading is below 20. Mine was 1,615. I have yet to be in touch with the rheumatologist in my area and I'm anxious to know what the high numbers mean. Is there someone that could give me more insight and explain things to me a little more?

Hi, I am sure with a number like that you are concerned.  Are you having any symptoms of a condition that caused you to get tested or did you ask as a precaution?
The thing about the blood tests are that they show your antibody levels which can help point a doctor in the right direction in diagnosing you but they cannot be used by themselves to diagnose a condition.  This is because you can test positive for something you do not have and negative for something you do.  The test results have to be used with the physical exam, xrays, some times MRIs and the symptoms you have to determine a diagnosis.  I was a case in point.  I have RA but only tested low positive for it however I tested off the charts for scleroderma and I do not have it.
Do you have your other test results? Was anything else elevated?
