High CPK

by Suddenlyinterrupted, Jun 04, 2008 12:30PM
I am a 33 yr old female, with a mystery.  Two months ago I started working out in atttempts ...:) to lose some of my mommy weight. I am 5'3,  145pds.   I found that I was in constant pain and proceeded to see my family doctor, because  I knew that what I was feeling was not normal.  After doing a series of blood test, everything came back normal expect for my CPK count which was 7036 I kid you not... and a bit of liver damage.  The pain has continued and I have been placed on a series of pain meds which do not seem to be working.  Thankfully my CPK count has gone down to 1080 after repeating the test one week after the first.  I have seen a specialist who diagnosed me with myositis...but things are not improving even afer I have stopped the excercising.  Is this familiar to anyone, does this sound strange...can someone please tell me what is going on.  Thanks in advance.

Did the report show what levels of CPK they are referring to?  CPK1 is related to the brain and lungs, CPK 2, the heart and CPK 3 is  skeletal muscle.  Certain medications can also increase the measurement of CPK tests.    Myositis is a general term used to describe inflammation in the body.  Please checkout the website  www.****.org it will help you with more concise information.   What type of specialist did you see?

Hi Sue,
Thanks for your response.  It was the CPK3 and I am not any form of medication..at least I was not...now they have placed me on anti-inflammitories, to see if it can offer some relieve, unfortunately it is not working. So far I have been sent to see an Internal Specialist and I have to go back and see her in a few more days at which point she will determine who I see next.  Unforntately the site that you recommended did not come through can you please give it again without the www.

Thanks soooooo much...:)

LOL, my bad I should know better!!!    myositis.org      What anti inflamm's do they have you on?    I was so badly swollen when I was first dx that my feet were in casts to keep them from swelling more!   The doc's tried many different Af's but the one that worked for me is called Ketoprofen, it is a RX drug.  4 years ago it was made in 200 mg's but for whatever reason they now only make it in 50 mg's so I take 4 at a time, sometimes more at night so I can wake up less swollen.  As much as I HATE prednisone it is a miracle drug for almost instant relief, just cant stay on it for the rest of my life or my bones will crumble more than they are now, ha ha....   Hope some of this helps, PLEASE stay in touch with me and PM any time.   Good luck with your next appt,

Sue
