Knee replacement at 40???

Knee replacement at 40???

I found out yesterday that I have almost no cartilidge left in my left knee and there are also spurs.  The MRI report contained several big words I can't remember right now but my doctor actually said to me "You're a little young for a knee replacement but........".  I am scared to death.  In the last six years, I have had the tendons in my right ankle reconstructed and 4 screws and two pins placed in my left hand and wrist.  Does anybody else have these kind of problems and can you give me some ideas on how to control my fear??  I've always been a worry wart and this isn't helping.

Darling, you are not too young for this surgery, especially if you're active. I'm 19 years old and had the same surgery done in my left knee for the same reasons! I also had a bone spur removed from my shoulder and the sack around the joint tightened. It isn't that big of a deal, but the healing does take some time. I had the surgery on my knee when I was 16 and although my knee isn't quite what it was; it is a lot better than before the surgery. Same with my shoulder, and I had that surgery at 17.
Point is, it's a big surgery, but with big results.
Definitely worth it, and it helps get rid of almost all of the pain. Just make sure you stick with all of the excercises afterwards to rebuild the strength, because you won't be able to use your knee for about 3-4 months the way you can now, and trust me it takes some time to rebuild the strenght!

Great news, princess! I had my first hip replaced at age 37, the second at 40. Best thing I ever did for myself!

I am 60 and had total knee replacement last year on February 5, 2011.  THere is not a day that goes by that I am not in pain.  If you can avoid having the surgery by all means do it.  Anyone who says that it gets rid of the pain is full of it.  I thought the pain was bad before I think it is worse now than then.
