More on drug interactions

Several sites seem to disagree on the interaction between methotrexate and COQ10. Is there any definitive information about using these two tablets together? Thanks,

This is a link to the "Ask a Pharmacist forum here", I’m pretty sure they can help.

Here's some more info I found on those 2 drugs. I think there's a problem with vitamins that contain Folic acid, but I don't think Vitamin Q has any. Probably be a good idea to call your Pharmacist too.

Vitamin preparations containing folic acid or its derivatives may decrease responses to systemically administered methotrexate. Preliminary animal and human studies have shown that small quantities of intravenously administered leucovorin enter the CSF primarily as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and, in humans, remain 1-3 orders of magnitude lower than the usual methotrexate concentrations following intrathecal administration. However, high doses of leucovorin may reduce the efficacy of intrathecally administered methotrexate.

Folic acid
• Mercaptopurine
• NSAIDs
• Oral antibiotics
• Penicillins
• Phenylbutazone
• Phenytoin
• Probenecid

COENZYME Q-10 Interactions
• Medications for cancer (Chemotherapy) interacts with COENZYME Q-10
Coenzyme Q-10 is an antioxidant. There is some concern that antioxidants might decrease the effectiveness of some medications used for cancers. But it is too soon to know if the interaction occurs.
• Medications for high blood pressure (Antihypertensive drugs) interacts with COENZYME Q-10
Coenzyme Q-10 seems to decrease blood pressure. Taking coenzyme Q-10 along with medications for high blood pressure might cause your blood pressure to go too low.
Some medications for high blood pressure include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.
• Warfarin (Coumadin) interacts with COENZYME Q-10
Warfarin (Coumadin) is used to slow blood clotting. Coenzyme Q-10 might help the blood clot. By helping the blood clot, coenzyme Q-10 might decrease the effectiveness of warfarin (Coumadin). Decreasing the effectiveness of warfarin (Coumadin) might increase the risk of clotting. Be sure to have your blood checked regularly. The dose of your warfarin (Coumadin) might need to be changed.
