Severe Low Back Pain

I am home today because I can't even put my own socks on.   The pain and stiffness in my low back is unbearable.   I have had a long Hx of back pain and treatments and surgeries.   Injections, Phys Therapy, Pain Meds, Neuro Meds - Have seen any number of Physicians, Neurologists, etc.  My last hope was a Right Piriformectomy to relieve excruciating right sciatic pain at the Cleveland Clinic by prominent  ortho surgeon in this field - Pain came back with increased pain.   Was refered by another ortho at another Clevelend U Hosp., to this specialist.  My surgery was to take an hour or so but I was in for 3 hours due to the sciatic nerve being entrapped within the P. muscle.   Sorry for the long Hx.  I do have a positive HLA B27 antigen marker in my lab work & when I ask my primary care Doc if I might have AS he say he does not "think" so.   I am 54 and in otherwise excellent shape but when I get up in the morning I can not bend the slightest degree w/o severe lower back pain.   It has been getting progressivvely worse these last 2 years and I am at my wits end.   PLEASE HELP ME!

In your surgery did they doe a lumbar fusion? My problems started with low back it was a fracture that healed back wrong and I had the terrible pain down my right leg and the ankle area for 2 years. They did a mylogram and discogram and found the problem, it took till I could not sit walk stand or anything before they took me serious. But there are other test to be ran.

You wrote you are HLA B27 positive, are testing positive on any of the other tests?  Did you have an elevated sed rate or crp?  Have you seen a rheumatologist?  I think you should at least get a second opinion because of the way you are suffering.  It would seem they would have caught that it was AS, but sometimes these things slip through.
