Unexplained Pain & Swelling

For 3 months I have had Pain and swelling in my left foot. The odd thing is that it is only my second and third toe, and the top of my foot that swell. A week after the foot started, I began getting severe pain in my joints. It started with my right upper back. It was so bad I couldn't even breathe. My husband took me to Urgant Care where a doctor did (Trigger Point Therapy"(shooting lidocaine in the spots that held the most pain). Nine shots later, I was at least able to breathe, but pain was still there. During this time I also came down with another bout of Iritis. (which I have been dealing with for 15 years). I wake up every morning with pain in different joints. The Dr. tested me for Rheumatiod Arthritis & Lupus. Both of which came back negative. He has tested me for spondilitis and that came back negative. The only thing has come back abnormal is my Sed Rate. That is now at a 47. He thinks that I could have some autoimmune disease, but he's not  sure. He is sending me to an Orthopedist and a Rheumatologist. I would like some suggestions to give to the doctors. This pain is so severe that there are days that I can't even move. This is not an option for me because I have a rambunctious 4 year old running around. Does any of this sound familiar to anybody?
Please help!!!!!

Hi.  I am sorry to read you are in pain.  I am sure that it is hard to keep up with your 4 yr old!  I bet you are hoping for a quick diagnosis and immediate effective treatment.  I hope that for you too but that is not always the case.
The doctor is on the right track sending you to a rheummy.  There are over 100 types of arthritis and more autoimmune disorders and rheummy's specialize in these conditions.  With your combination of symptoms you may have something I am not aware of or more than one thing going on which is not uncommon.  That can make diagnosis difficult but a rheummy is by far your best bet.
The lab work you have had has helped narrow the field but sometimes we have conditions for which we test negative and do not have conditions for which we test positive.  The bllod work shows the antibodies in your system.  The rheummy will use the labs combined with your symptoms and physical evidence from an exam, x-rays and maybe an MRI to determine what is in play.
When is your appt. with the rheummy?
