Unexplained ankle swelling

On occasion it feels like the muscles on the outside and top of my foot cramp up and become sore and swollen after the cramping is over. This has happened four times and not after any major physical activity. I am a very athletic person; however, this occurs simply when I am walking around my house barefoot. The swelling only lasts for about 2 days and my range of movement is a little limited due to the swelling. I am not in much pain, I would describe it more as discomfort. Is this possibly arthritis?

I am with Sue and txsilver on this one, you need to see a physician about this.  They will probably run some blood tests and if they think its arthritis they will probably send you on to a Rheumatologist.  Rheumys are great Dr's who not only treat arthritis, they treat certain autoimmune conditions as well.  I like to think of my Rheumy and Internal Med Dr as kind of like the Rock Stars of Medicine.  :) They are truly brilliant Dr's.

But definately go see your Dr about this.

Ada

I am not at all trying to discount anyone's advice to you, however, before  you go out and buy anything I would go to a Dr. to find out what is wrong with you.  I agree with txsilver about the shoe thing though.  I think we are all guilty at times of trying to self diagnose, you clearly have something going on and I think a trip to the Dr. is worth the time!  Good luck and let us know how you make out.

There's this patch called actipatch. ActiPatch is based on the same proven and highly effective pulsed electromagnetic in-office therapy used for decades by physicians, therapists and athletic trainers worldwide. The inventors of ActiPatch have used state-of-the-art micro electronic circuitry to shrink the technology into an inexpensive, small, lightweight wearable patch that effectively reduces swelling (edema) and significantly accelerates the healing process.  The clinical evidence of the patch’s success is overwhelming and supported by multiple scientific studies. You can try to use it. You can buy it at online thru actipatchonline.com

All things are possible, but this sounds like a problem I use to have a lot that was not arthritis.  I would suggest you try not going barefoot even around the house.  Get some sandals with good support (not flip flops) and wear them indoors.  Make sure your other shoes have good support in them too.  Try that for a couple of weeks and see if things improve.  If they don't you should see a Dr. for diagnosis.  Good luck!
