ankles ???

ankles ???

I broke both ankles 3 times over 20 years ago, so when pain started took it for granted was arthritus. Thing is both ankles have extreme pain  simultaneously for few minitues then everything is fine. May be few minitues or few months till happens again. If driving must pull over hurts to huch to even put prtessure on gas pedal.
I am also a controlled eppileptic , controlled by medication. No seizures for  over 22 years.

It is cruel truth that the bones we bruise, wrench and break haunt us later in life.  I am sorry you are suffering again.  Can you explain more about the pain in your ankles?  It happens at the same time?  Is it stabbing, burning or throbbing or something else?  Does the pain radiate?  Have you talked to your doctor about it?  Have you checked the potential side effects of the medication you take for your epilepsy?

Yes, I broke my tibia/fibula at 17 (am now 63). The displacement of those bones and the twist that incurred the break really messed up my ankle--it has spurs around it. Back then, doctors immobilized it for what worked out to be 10 weeks at least w/ absolutely no PT or directions to strech it later. I have limited ROM and ankle swelling that never went away since the injury. It was worse rainy days in WI and I kept rolling w/ chiropractic adjustments. There were times years ago when I used a cane because of the pain walking. In my 30's, I could be playing softball one day and on a cane the next day and vice versa,,,Thank goodness it does not rain as much in CA!
My question is--should I try to loosen it up a bit w/ 1-2" heel elevated shoes or just stick to flats? I tried on a pair of cute highish heel clogs last week, and my ankle howled later. I am fine w/ flats, but a small heel for dress would be nice!
