Well, it would be very difficult to comment on the situation or suggest a possible management plan without knowing the cause of the symptoms/ a detailed clinical evaluation. In case of an arthritis, management depends on the type and severity of the arthritis and the presence of associated abnormalities. Also with associated back pain, postural defects and spinal/ related issues may need to be considered as well. I would suggest getting him evaluated by an orthopedician or a rheumatologist for an accurate diagnosis and suggestion of an appropriate management plan.
