back pain

I have pain in the upper right side of my back. At times it is to where i can handle the pain but at other times the pain so bad that i just want to die. I do have fibromyalgia, arhrist, and spinal spond., in which I was told it was a number 1 and the pain should not be that bad. But I am the one that is hurting not the doctor. Please tell me what to do for the pain.

I am so sorry for all the pain you are having and then having a Dr tell you that the pain should not be that bad.  They obviously haven't walked a day in your shoes.  I know pain all too well and definately sympathize with you.

I would suggest seeing a pain management Dr and see what they can do for you.With your mix of ailments Dr's should definately be helping you get some pain relief.  I would make an appt with him as an emergency consult and tell him you will not leave until he gives you something for the pain.  Be stern about it, tell him how it is affecting your life.
Dr's are very hesitant about giving strong pain relievers because of the risk of a patient becoming addicted to them.

I agree with Ada that a pain management dr. would benefit you.  My concern is that you have to have a referal from your Dr to see a pain mgmt specialist.  If your Dr does not believe you are in extreme pain he/she may be hesitant to refer you.  In that case it is time to find a new Dr.  Are you seeing a rheumatologist?  If not, now is the time to get to one.  Also, how long ago were xrays taken of your spine?  Did they do an MRI?  If it has been awhile it may be time to get tests again to check disease progression for the spondylitis.  
Your post indicates that you are driving your own health care and that is wonderful.  Keep doing it as you are your best advocate!
