i have just been diagnosed with de quervain tenosynovitis
about 10 years ago i had carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands for which i had surger
is there any connection between the two

carpal tunnel surgery releases (cuts open & removes) the flexor retinaculum which is an umbrella over the tunnel the flexor tendons run through.

that would have nothing to do with recent overuse of your thumb that results in tendonitis , called de quervain's tenosynovitis
