fibromyalgia diagnostic workup

What is considered a comprehensive workup to exclude all other diagnoses before considering fibromyalgia as the diagnosis.  It seems to me that different doctors have very different viewpoints as to whether this is a "real" disorder, and when to quit "digging" for another diagnosis.
