hand and joint pain

Hi all,
i have had aching cramp type pain in my left and right hands for 5 weeks now, after 2 weeks the middle joint in my 3rd finger left hand felt like it had something in it, tight for a bit when i get up in the morning lasts about 5 minutes or so still have full movement can feel slight tenderness when i press on it. or i feel tension on it if i make a fist, no visible swelling and dosent look red or anything. after a week of this the joint on my little finger left hand went the same way, then 3 days later the finger next to my right thumb went the same but not as tender as the other two if i carry anything it feels like it is cutting in to the palm of my hands even holding a knife or fork leaves a groove in the skin for a while after it is released, finger tips feel like they are bruised and throbbing at times.

went to my doc twice in this time first when it was one joint he said it was osteoarthritis, went back the following time and he said the same ,told i couldnt beleive 3 joints had worn out at the same time. plus at times i had twinges of pain in other joints in the hand he took bloods to check for RA all bloods came back as perfectly normal he checked for b27 gene which was neg, i had IRITIS in left eye about 7 years ago on and off for 8 months never came back. at the time when this hand pain started i was getting over a bad chest infection does anyone know what it might be as i feel my hands are useless at the moment.

Hi.  Sorry to red your hands are useless.  To try and get some relief, have you tried taking an over the counter pain reliever that is formulated for arthritis?  What about topicals?  Have you tried using the arthritis heat wraps?  All of these things helped me until I could get a diagnosis.
I see you had some lab work, did you also have x-rays?  I see you are in the UK, I know the health system is different there, can you see another doctor?  It seems I read that you had to get a general practicioner to refer you to rheumatologist, is that true?  If not, by all means, get to a rheummy to have things checked out thoroughly.
Please write back and let me know more about what you have tried, what tests have been done, any lab results that you have and we will all try to help you out.
