joint , fever, elevated crp x 1 year

Long story short...

September 07 I got sick with mono. Then I got parvovirus b19 at the same time. I suddenly developed joint pain (which I know is common in parvo b19) and have had it in nearly all joints for the past year. At first I had an elevated RA factor and high crp. Went to a rheumatologist to r/o RA. Had several x-rays of hands/feet and RA was ruled out. The pain, daily fevers and fatigue continued on. I went to another rheumatologist who ruled out anklosing spondylitis (mri did reveal retrolethesis and two bulging discs), Crohn's, inflammatory bowel disease. I take Celebrex to help with the joint pain.

One year has passed and the mono and parvo tests come back as "no longer active", yet I am still experiencing the same symptoms and blood work (high crp, elevated sed rate, negative ra factor). Any ideas?

Thank you,
Sarah:)

I know how frustrating this process can be, I'm sorry.  I had the parvo sometime, they found it in a bone marrow biopsy sample.  I don't know when I was ill with it, I haven't felt well in over a year so it could of been anytime.

There are so many Dr's who believe people should be textbook but patients are very unique in their symptoms and the Dr's should look outside the box and see the patient as a individual.  Hang in there and if the Dr's can't figure this out, get another opinion.

It took me almost a year to get a dx, but I have had symptoms off and on for about five years.  I aggressively started seeking treatment in July 07 when I had to take a medical leave from work.

Hugs,

Ada

Thanks for the reply. Did you have parvo too? I have thought that perhaps the mono/parvo has brought something autoimmune out of me. It's frustrating b/c my symptoms don't seem to be "textbook" which makes drs just shake their heads and basically say, "I don 't know what it is." Frustrating!

How long did it take you to get the AOSD diagnosis?

Rashes....every once in a blue moon. Nothing that I can see a pattern with.

Thanks so much! Good to know that someone knows how I feel!

Hi Sweetie, we have a lot in common.  Parvovirus can mess up the immune system and arthritis and arthralgias are common with it, what is not common is daily fevers.  Sweetie, I think your Dr's need to look at Adult Onset Stills Disease.  I have a whole slew of info in my journal pages and you are most welcome to take a look at them.  Do you get rashes at all?  Most rheumy's will not think of Stills at first, they try to exclude everything else before they think about it.  It is pretty rare....  Please keep me updated and if you need to talk just send me a msg.
