knee replacement/programs for noninsured

I have been having problems with my knees for about 4 1/2 yrs, now.  I started working on concrete floors and it all came about pretty quick.  I got a pair of Z-coil shoes and they really help, but the situation is getting worse.  We have no insurence and I have not even been to a specialist yet, only chiropractors and I finally said something to my M.D. I didn't want a trail with doctors if we could get insurance. So, they believe I have bone on bone.  My mother just had both of her knees replaced last year, she is 80, I am only 54.  Any suggestions? Anybody know of any programs that are out there to help the uninsured?  Somebody suggested Cleveland Clinic, someone else thought Ohio State had a program?

One option you may want to consider is  medical tourism, wherein patients travel internationally for healthcare. If you do in fact need knee replacement surgery, you may be able to find it for as much as 80% cheaper in countries such as Taiwan, India, and Singapore. Do a quick google search for "medical tourism" and educate yourself.

I am sorry to read you are suffering.  I hope another forum member will write with a good lead for you.  I suggest you check with your local hospitals to see what options are open to you.  There are some charities that work directly with the hospitals to assist the uninsured.
