shoulder pain..

by francie1, Apr 14, 2009 03:00PM
I've been to the doctor several times about my shoulder pain and nobody seems to know what's wrong with me. The last time I went, I was told I have arthritis in my shoulder and needed PT, but I don't have any insurance so I can't afford to go. Does anybody know how to cope with this debilitating pain? Most of the time I can't move my shoulder, I can't pick anything up, it just plain hurts to move it! The naproxen I was prescribed did nothing to help me out. I need something to help with the pain. Anything will be appreciated.

Have you ever had an MRI, or even x-rays on your shoulder?  It could be a rotator cuff problem or something torn.  I don't think the doctors can tell unless they get some kind of films and that's probably why they're just saying arthritis.

Is this the only place you have pain?

I had extreme pain and after MRI they found that my joint fluid was leaking and causing cyst due to extreme shoulder instabilities. Had total reconstruction. Wouldn't recommend it but doesn't hurt as bad, just was bad on me b/c I have Fibromyalgia. Look further, they will find something. Laproscopy surgery for rotator cuff is a lot easier than letting it get worse and more painful surgeries.

I hate to read you are in pain and suffering because you do not have insurance.  Have you tried topical treatments like biofreeze or stopain?  Does heat provide any relief?  See if there are places near you that offer free or reduced cost care.  You might also contact the therapist and see if they will work out a plan for you or a reduced rate.  These times are tough and many of us are suffering, including those people whose services we can no longer afford!  The worst thing that could happen is they will say no.  The best would be a plan or a referral to someone who will work with you.
Please let us know what happens and, if there is something we can do for you, we certainly will.
