Gangrene

I'm writing a novel set in a place and time where antibiotics and medical care were not available. A character has his foot crushed by a falling log, infection sets in leading to gangrene and eventually he dies. My question is: How long would this take?

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

I think it would take about 24-48 hours for gangrene to set in and then probably only another 2-3 days for the character to become septic and die from infection.  Hope this helps.  Good luck with your novel!
