Melted Plastic

Melted Plastic

Hi there,

I wonder if you an please help. I know that inhaling burnt plastic is toxic and obviously will be infinitely more careful now. I have melted my LDPE 4 plastic chopping board in the kitchen. I have a baby - everything says that it can cause cancer etc and respiratory problems immediately - there was no smoke or anything but I heard that Carbon Monoxide is invisible. Can this small exposure have caused lasting damage to the baby or my toddler? I am very worried about it.

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

It would be unlikely that this small exposure would cause any lasting damage.  If you are concerned you should discuss this with your children's pediatrician.  I don't think that you have anything to worry about.  Good luck.
